Q. WHAT ARE THE ART AND OLFACTION AWARDS?
A. An awards mechanism designed to promote and celebrate independent practitioners in perfumery. The Art and Olfaction Awards program was initiated in 2013, and the first awards ceremony took place in April 2014 in Los Angeles CA.
Q. WHO’S BEHIND THIS?
A. The Art and Olfaction Awards are a program of The Institute for Art and Olfaction, a non-profit organization devoted to advancing public and artistic engagement with scent through public education programs, creative residencies, and collaborative projects between perfumers, scientists and other creative practitioners. Through these efforts, the IAO extends the world of scent beyond its traditional boundaries of appreciation and use. But we’re not in this alone: We partner with a number of fine institutions from Los Angeles and beyond, as well as a rotating group of devoted judges, our friends at Scent Culture Institute who gather and process data about the awards, our partners, and our lawyer, who makes sure our rules are as clear as can be.
Q. CAN I BE A JUDGE?
A. Our judges are invited based on their experience with perfumery, contemporary arts practices, cross-media practices, or others fields that are important to fair and diverse modes of assessment (such as botany, history, etc). If you have something to offer that you feel is not represented on the current and past judging panels, please email us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Note that only one or two judging slots open up every year, and we have a long stand-by list.

Q. I WANT TO WRITE ABOUT THE AWARDS. WHO DO I TALK TO?
